Tótem Computer began as an attempt to close the gap between the software people need to run and the hardware they can actually afford. The goal was straightforward and slightly stubborn: make high-performance computing available regardless of where you live or what you can spend on a machine.

The first version of the platform was a Cloud PC marketplace that brought providers from around the world into one place, so a user could compare, choose and spin up a virtual PC that fit what they were doing. A designer on a five-year-old laptop could run the full Adobe suite. An architect could open AutoCAD from an iPad.

Instant access — create or log into a virtual machine in under ten minutes, billed by the hour rather than by the month.

Device agnostic — the same machine from a Mac, a light laptop, a tablet or a browser.

Built as a Vue single-page app, it carried the business for four years and taught us where the model strains: users could not translate their work into a spec sheet, and the marketplace framing put the choice before the need. Both findings went straight into the rewrite.

It was succeeded by Tótem Cloud App 2.0 — a multi-region Next.js product organised around use cases instead of hardware. Around the platform, the company grew two further practices: IT services for business customers, and custom software development. Today Tótem runs its own SaaS in production and builds technology for clients across six countries.
