2015 — 2016, three editions

HackMTY was a series of student-organised hackathons run by the ACM chapter at Tec de Monterrey. Over three editions it became the largest free student hackathon in Latin America, backed by Major League Hacking.

The 2015 rebrand was a deliberate departure from an older, tired event: a new name and identity meant to represent its home city proudly rather than generically. Spring 2016 shifted the personality while keeping the equity — brighter, more colourful, built for a social campaign.

The final edition carried an extensive redesign, built around the Cerro de la Silla — the mountain that is Monterrey's most recognisable silhouette. Banners, posters, invitations and business cards all used the city skyline, arguing for Monterrey as a place where technology happens.

Each edition drew more than 400 hackers from around the world and 15+ corporate sponsors. The 2015 edition won the student council award for best student event of the year.
